TOPCAT still alive...?
« on: September 05, 2014, 09:36:24 PM »
I'm sorry of this is a stupid question but I am thinking about buying PFPX, mainly for the upcoming Aerosoft Airbus 318/319 and after watching some tutorials about PFPX I noticed it would be great to also get TOPCAT. However... to a newcomer as me it seems TOPCAT is almost dead... it's impossible to get profiles for certain aircraft and it seems to take months and months before you maybe perhaps who knows get a new profile for a new plane... There also isn't much activity on this forum. (Take note: I am not complaining here: this is just how it looks for a newcomer!!!  ;) ).

Now I do think I will buy PFPX (because you can add profiles yourself or I am sure others will create profiles for the Airbus 318/319) but I am totally not sure if I will ever be able to use TOPCAT with that plane. So I thought it would be best to ask here! ;)

What's the future of TOPCAT? Will new planes be added? If so, which ones? Or is TOPCAT a finished addon and is this it? Again, I would LOVE to get it together with PFPX but obviously I'd like to be able to actually use it too! ;)

Well, okay... sometimes no reply is a reply... I think the deafening silence (even though it's the weekend now) has given me the answer to my question. TOPCAT isn't very much alive anymore, so it seems. I'll pass.

Well, I am not a newbie to forums but couldn't find the answers anyway... I am not (just) asking support for a plane that's not yet simulated, I am asking if there is a chance it will be supported in the future and if TOPCAT is actually still being worked on because it seems not much profiles for new planes have been added lately and the dev seems rather silent. I obviously don't want to buy something which I will never be able to use!

Hello J,

Yes, there is a chance to add some planes into the actual database.
As said Phil, this question has been already answered.

I would add That if we spent time to answer this kind of question, we can't develop new one...

Best regards
Pierre

J buy this and don't buy TOPCAT, it takes them months to just too make one version of an airplane and even after its done the calculations are way way way off.

And how does that help the OP who is seeking a solution for the yet to be released Aerosoft Airbus 318/319?

TOPCAT works very well for the 737NG and 77L and integrates to PFPX.

Advertising a competitors product on a developers forum is hardly respectful.

Indeed, not much use in that link for me... But I have to say that what he said about the new profiles for TOPCAT is what I've been reading everywhere: that's in fact why I asked what I asked. I THOUGHT it was always best to go to the developer for actual reliable news.

However... I have to say I am not too happy with the (apparently) official replies which beat around the bush and only say I have to use the search option. Saying something like "I would add That if we spent time to answer this kind of question, we can't develop new one..." is very cheap. Specially because it seems to me no one is developing anything here.

Not exactly the kind of replies that entices me to buy ANY product of this company. On the contrary. It seems to me that what I read elsewhere was right.

J,

your first question is about TOPCAT alive: the answer it is.

now the answer about delays to get a profile has been debated and answered and i will answer again.
the main focus is on PFPX for now and people are working on it and in the same time we all have a real life, means we are helping here but what can be done is what is done. the developpers are still working on it and you wont hear here or there what they are doing or not it will come in time.

you are asking for getting one day an extra airbus profile the a318-319 for an airplane that is not yet simulated and you don t know what kind of datas will be use to make it?

do you have infos about those datas used?

there is nobody putting a gun on your head to buy a product for sure.

enjoy your day.

I am not asking for an Airbus 319 profile in one day... don't really know what gave you that idea. But thanks for the reply and taking the time to try and answer my questions.

And er... I'd like to apologize for parts of my previous posts: some of it was a bit too er.. grumpy. I understand Flightsimsoft isn't a huge company with a large team of developers and a bunch of communication experts focusing on communication all day: a lot (if not all) of the work is done by hobbyists (like me), out of love for the hobby. I sometimes seem to forget that... So sorry for that.

TOPCAT DOESN'T WORK WELL FOR THE 777 if you chose a different config for landing from the defaul one it gives you erroneous value and also there are months that we are in this situation with a beta version of the 777........... Deleted by moderator.........
