FSGRW as weather source
« on: September 16, 2013, 11:10:28 AM »
Hi Christian, Judith, Pierre and all,
having switched to FSGRW from ASE, i wonder if it would be possible to add support for FSGRWs weather files to TOPCAT.
Now that PFPX has support for the format, i guess you already have a parser at hand that could be adapted?

Danke :)

Nils

I too would like to see this added, along with the MD80 being finished.

+1 - would consider this a natural update, seeing as PFPX and TOPCAT are striving for intercompability - having the same weather source should be a step in that direction?

Hi all,

I'm testing FSGRW which gives a very accurate WX.
Awaiting a complete compatibility between TOPCAT and it, you could, as I use NOAA source in TOPCAT which is the same as FSGRW.

The only difference is for historic WX. Until now, it is not enable in TOPCAT.
Considering the success of this WX Engine, I think It will be able soon.

Sounds great Pierre!

I use NOAA to when working with PFPX. I do find them not be 100% the same, but maybe that has something do with how PFPX interprets the NOAA data... Great if we could have FSGRW support in TOPCAT none the less!

thx again.

Hi Mas,

PFPX WX data are forecast for flight time + a delta time.
FSGRW data are instant ones wich can present some little differences.
Moreover NOAA provides some different data grid covering the whole world:
0.5x0.5; 1.0x1.0; 2.5x2.5.

I know PFPX uses 2.5x2.5 so it interpolates the intermediate values.
If FSGRW uses shortest grid, it is normal to find a little difference.

Cheers
Pierre
