Perhaps the developer can, in his announced statement for today, answer the following question: as I understand all relevant data used by PFPX to create the flighplan are freely available on the internet. The now discussed fee is a fee for using the developer's server. Would it be a solution that PFPX itself downloads the required data directly from the sources to the user's computer (and not accesses them from the developer's server)?

If this is not implemented in the program so far, I suggest to postpone release and change it.  ;D ;D ;D Kidding, of course, but maybe you could implement it after release within a year so that (after the included 1 year of server usage) subsequently everyone could continue using PFPX without buying third party addons or paying recurrent fees.

Cheers,
Markus

Just so that I understood the situation correctly.

If you do not want to continue the subscription after one year, you have to buy either ActiveSky or REX to have weather data sent to PFPX? This leads to another question.

What is the likelyhood of Opus and FSGRW support being added to PFPX (within a year)?

Dear prospecitve PFPX user,

As you have probably heard, we are in the final stages of PFPX release.
The last weeks have been extremely demanding for us, but the release is very close now.
The plans are now to make PFPX available mid next week (AROUND the 28th of August)

There have been some legitimate concerns about the so called server subscription.
Ill now explain what this subscription is required for, why we have introduced such a subscription and what it will cost.

General
PFPX uses several types of data to provide real-time information directly into the program. These data are collected from various sources, processed and formatted by our servers and automatically distributed to your local PFPX device.
These data are: Winds, METAR, TAF, Tracks and NOTAMs.
Providing this up-to-date real-time data produces quite a large amount of server data traffic.

Server Subscription
Beginning with the initial activation, a (free) server subscription for 365 days is automatically configured. After this period, the subscription can be extended by purchasing additional server subscription time.

What if my subscription expires?
If you elect NOT to extend the server subscription, PFPX will still be fully functional, but without real-time data such as Winds, METAR, TAF, Tracks and NOTAMs.
Other sources, like ActiveSky and RealEnvironment Extreme and your saved weather data and tracks will still be functional!
You can elect to extend your subscription at any time, even if it already has expired!

Subscription cost
The price for an additional 365 day subscription period will be 14,90 (incl. EU VAT)

Thanks for clearing this up.

14,90 isn't bad at all :-)

It's very likely to have these add-ons Supported in PFPX soon, depending on the cooperation of their developers.

PS: were already in contact with FSGRW - and with OPUS

Hey! Look who still exists!

This post should have happened long ago. Much outrage would be avoided.

Basicly true, but we had to coordinate with publisher about release date and server subscription issue before making any 'official' statements.

hello Christian,

That looks good to me, too bad it has not been explained in the manual or prior, but I'm sure you're quite busy finishing everything which explains that, it's not like a big company that havbe people handling these kind of situation.

Well all that is left is to wait for next week hopefully then :)

Cheers

Many thanks for the post Christian.

Now that you have explained the cost, all is well.

If only you had posted this before the manual was released then all the 'negativity' not just here but on other forums would have been prevented.

Anyway, release is when again..... ::)...joking

Can't wait

Not just this specific outrage about subscription (but yes, that too.).
The breakdown in communication should not be a staple of a company - especially when it seems to be very proficient in the actual software development.

Just to clarify: if I have ActiveSky or REX (or, in the future, maybe another supported program), I do not need to buy the server extension and PFPX will be fully functional? All relevant and required data are provided by AS/REX?

well, communication is indeed very important - even if the quality of the program/Software is fine.
The official PFPX Forum will move to Aerosoft - as they have more capabilities.
Well have an account as well - and if there are any questions, weve always been able to answer questions via email
(sometimes - especially the last few months - this way worked better than the Forum).
